Tabletop & Countertop Epoxy Calculator

Coating a bar top, table or countertop? Enter the surface size and coat thickness to estimate epoxy volume. Optionally include the edges.

Formula

Theoretical values; runoff over edges, absorption into porous wood and leftover in cups reduce real coverage.

Seal coat first

Bare wood is porous and can release air into a flood coat. A thin seal coat brushed or spread on first helps limit bubbles. Many self-leveling tabletop epoxies settle around 1/8 inch per coat; check your product's recommended thickness. Estimating the budget? See epoxy countertop cost per square foot.

Frequently asked questions

How much epoxy do I need per square foot?

At 1/8 inch thick, one square foot needs 18 cubic inches, which is about 10 US fl oz (0.078 gallons).

How much epoxy for a countertop?

Multiply the area in square feet by 144 and by the thickness in inches to get cubic inches, then divide by 231 for gallons. A 20 sq ft countertop at 1/8 inch needs about 1.56 gallons before waste and edges.

Should I include the edges?

If the epoxy will flow over and coat the edges, yes. The calculator adds perimeter × edge height × thickness.

How thick should a tabletop epoxy coat be?

Many tabletop epoxies are designed to self-level at about 1/8 inch per coat, but follow your product's guidance.
